Leading Design for a First-of-Its-Kind EV Platform

As Head of Product Design at Switch, I led a growing design team to deliver an innovative EV charging experience for both B2B and B2C users. Our mission was to create a seamless, intuitive platform that connected workplace and home charging with diagnostics, maintenance, and user education. I oversaw every stage of design, from research and ideation to prototyping, testing, and final delivery, ensuring the team’s work aligned with both business goals and user needs.

We built dual-platform products — a management platform for enterprise clients and a B2C mobile app for everyday users — with a consistent design system tailored for iOS and Android. By implementing structured design processes, fostering close collaboration with engineers and product managers, and mentoring the design team, we delivered interfaces that simplified complex EV operations, increased satisfaction, and reduced maintenance costs for charge point operators.

Establishing a Cross-Functional Product Process

Establishing a Cross-Functional Product Process

Establishing a Cross-Functional Product Process

To keep teams aligned and focused, I introduced a clear, repeatable process across design, engineering, and product: Discovery → Design → Implement → Launch & Listen.

  1. Discovery
Deep research with users, stakeholders, and industry standards to identify real needs and opportunities.

  2. Design
Collaborative design sprints involving designers, engineers, and product managers to ensure feasibility and alignment from the start.

  3. Implement
Close partnership between design and engineering during build, with iterative reviews to maintain quality and consistency.

  4. Launch & Listen
Post-launch usability testing, analytics tracking, and customer interviews to capture feedback and inform the next iteration.

This process created a shared rhythm across teams, ensuring user insights and technical realities shaped every stage of the product, while building trust and transparency between disciplines.

Scaling the Platform and Brand

A website is composed of interactive elements. We created a website that found our logo composed of interactive elements, these could then be clicked and dragged around by users to create fun little illustrations - easily sharable on social media.

Beyond the apps, I guided the evolution of Switch’s digital presence. I led a full website redesign to support the company’s shift from R&D focus to commercial sales, managing the team through strategy, design, and Webflow development in-house. My approach emphasised clarity, speed, and scalability — making complex EV charging technology approachable for users while giving the team frameworks to maintain consistency and efficiency across all touchpoints.

Design System

On the night, the event itself was a major success with all the tickets selling out and 100+ individuals attending. The feedback from everyone was overwhelming and we couldn't be more excited and motivated to keep our anyone events going.

To ensure product consistency and enable team scalability, I built and managed a robust design system in Figma, fully documented in Zeroheight. This system included:

  • Component libraries for both mobile and web platforms
  • Typography, color, iconography, and motion guidelines
  • Reusable design tokens for rapid prototyping and development handoff
  • Versioning and updates coordinated across the design and engineering teams

The system streamlined collaboration, reduced design debt, and allowed new designers to ramp up quickly. It also empowered engineers with ready-to-use, production-ready components, ensuring high-fidelity implementation and consistency across both B2B and B2C products.
